On Saturday, Saoradh and the Carty family held a wreath-laying ceremony to mark 45 years since Volunteer Paddy Carty, Volunteer Sean Loughran and Volunteer Dermot Crowley were killed on active service at Omagh 25th of June 1973.
The Three Volunteers as they became known were transporting a mine to attack a Crown Force target in Omagh when it exploded prematurely killing all three instantly on the towns Gortin Road. Volunteer Paddy Carty and Sean Loughran were from Dungannon and Dermot Crowley was from Cork all three had distinguished themselves in battle before paying the supreme sacrifice that summers day in 1973.
The commemoration took place at the Republican Plot in Edendork Graveyard where Volunteer Paddy Carty and Volunteer Sean Loughran are laid to rest. It was followed by a successful Rebel Night in Donaghy’s Bar Dungannon
