- Drug Epidemic in East Tyrone
In recent years the increase of recreational drug use in rural working class republican areas has increased dramatically. The proliferation of drugs such as cocaine, so called legal highs and prescription medication has reached epidemic proportions. There is an acceptance, indeed an expectation, now among many young people that a good night out must include the consumption of such substances.
As this issue affects entire communities, only a community wide initiative can begin to tackle the issue.
A number of families and concerned individuals have lobbied Saoradh in the Kildress area asking for help and support on this issue.
As a response, Saoradh have organised a public meeting this Friday night, 8pm, at St Joseph’s Parochial Hall, Killeenan, Kildress (9/2/18) and we invite everyone with concerns or proposals for a community-led response regarding drugs to attend and take part.
