Saoradh Kerry commemorate Bill O Shea
Saoradh Kerry held a commemoration In Memory of veteran Republican Bill O Shea, who hailed from Ballylongford Kerry. Bill joined the IRA in 1954 taking part in operation Harvest and saw action along the border. He fought in later years as well and did much to help shelter IRA volunteers on the run.
Local Republicans cite Bill as an inspiration. He died on January 12th, 2015 not long after his 81st birthday.
At his graveside commemoration, he was fondly remembered by family friends and comrades who travelled from Kerry, Cork, Limerick and Dundalk.
The main speaker was his lifelong friend Mick Hegarty. He spoke of Bills strong republican beliefs his desire to see a united 32 county socialist Republic, those ideals live on in his family and friends who attended the event. Pat Lawlor also spoke and Mick Horigan sang and played the accordion.
There was a well-attended function afterwards.
Saoradh Kerry wishes to thank all who attended the event.
